How Social Media is Changing the Recruiting Landscape

Social Media and Mobile Recruiting

From Facebook to LinkedIn to TikTok, social media has taken over the world. Need a new recipe? Looking to sell your old furniture? Social media is the epicenter for it all. It should come as no surprise that these platforms have also changed the recruiting landscape. Whether you want to find Gen Z’ers or Millennials, or save some money when recruiting, brushing up on your social media skills will come in handy.

One of the biggest advantages to recruiting via social is the cost savings. Traditional advertising such as print, radio, and television can come with hefty price tags. The metric typically used to quantify the differences in advertising is the cost per thousand impressions (CPM). The CPM for a newspaper, for instance, is $16. This may not seem like a lot of money in the grand scheme of things but compared to social media CPM, it is a huge cost. Social media advertising has a CPM of about $6, though it changes depending on the platform. That is one of the lowest, if not the lowest, advertising expenses you can find.

Don’t discount the power of smartphones! The mobile generation is used to instantly finding what they are looking for because they have the world in the palm of their hands. In fact, a recent Glassdoor study found that 58% their users used their phone to search for a job. If you aren’t using social media to find your next recruit, you are missing out on the majority of candidates.

One more reason to brush up on your online skills is to outpace other recruiters. Over a third of organizations have started to develop strategies to leverage on mobile recruiting. It is now considered one of the best ways to attract the ever-elusive passive job candidates. Regardless of the position you are looking to hire, according to an SHRM survey, the majority of candidates are found through social media. 82% of management positions and 55% of hourly employees have been recruited through various online platforms.

Social media has drastically changed the way we live our lives. This being said, it has also changed the way people not only look for jobs, but how they are recruited. Whether your company wants to save some money or attract a passive candidate, social media should be one of your strongest strategies. Let Skywalk Group do the work for you.
