Leadership and Development for Women Public Workshop October 2011

Skywalk Group’s Leadership and Development for Women helps women develop strong leadership skills and effectively navigate the workplace.  This workshop is taught by a female instructor with significant leadership experience and C-level interaction.  Although basic leadership skills that are beneficial to everyone will be covered, special emphasis will be given to issues that women regularly face in becoming effective leaders in their organizations.  Participants will also be required to read Beyond Juggling:  Rebalancing Your Busy Life by Kathy Buckner, et al.

Topics covered in the classroom include:

Essential Skills of Leadership

  • How to maintain and enhance the self-esteem of your team members
  • How to focus on behaviors instead of attitudes and personalities
  • How to involve team members and accept help
  • The importance of mentoring for women in the workplace
  • A panel discussion with the three female Skywalk Group Partners:  Elizabeth Trcka, Lydia Brown, and Tami Young

Essential Skills of Communication

  • See that communication is a two-way process
  • How to create a climate of open communication
  • How to adjust your communication style for the opposite gender
  • How to “communicate up” to male and female leaders in your organization

Goal Setting

  • How to define goals, objectives and performance standards
  • How to challenge and support other females in your organization
  • Negotiate with team members to develop SMART-based performance standards
  • Hold others accountable for meeting established objectives

Providing Performance Feedback

  • Base assessments on behavior and facts vs. attitudes and opinions
  • Gender issues and challenges in providing feedback
  • How to have effective, difficult conversations
  • Role playing providing performance feedback with men

Target Audience: Women who are currently leaders/managers within the organization or women who are considering management as a career path within the organization.
