Recruitment Marketing: What is it and why is it important in today's hiring process?

Recruitment marketing is relatively new term.  Gone are the days when we can post an ad in the local newspaper and become bombarded with resumes of qualified candidates.  Today, most companies are dealing with a severe talent shortage and must work much harder to bring in needed talent, combining recruiting with a comprehensive marketing plan.

Here are three ways you can incorporate recruitment marketing into your company’s hiring strategy today:

  1. Authentic Branding – Take a close look at your employer collateral.  Does it have photos of real employees and showcase your true culture? Authenticity of materials will resonate much stronger with potential talent as well as your current workforce.  It will also weed out those that wouldn’t necessarily fit your company’s culture.

  2. Nurturing the Applicant Pool – What happens after you determine an applicant doesn’t fit your open position perfectly or you come across great talent, but you don’t currently have an open spot for them?  If you’re like 80 percent of the employers out there, the individual’s information goes into a “black hole”. Instead, you should remain relatively in-touch with these applicants and their qualifications.  Create a database of potential talent and reach out occasionally, possibly via eblast to share company insights or job search suggestions.

  3. Improve the Candidate Experience – This goes along with number 2, in which you perform higher to attract those higher performers out there.  Just like the average consumer today, candidates will do their research before continuing the hiring process with you, so provide them with more insight than just the pay, benefits and job description.  Give them all the details of working for your company.

Branding, nurturing and improving the experience are the top priorities for any successful marketing department today.  Why wouldn’t this be the same for recruiters as well?  These are your leads, potential customers and finally, a full blown conversion.  If you have questions about how to turn your talent leads into conversions in the recruiting game, reach out to our team at Skywalk Group to discuss your specific needs – and don’t forget to check out OnRecruit to expedite the process today!
